Bio
I am a professionally trained, award-winning actor and stand-up comedian who has performed extensively on stage and screen in a variety of international productions, as well as hosting shows live on radio and producing podcasts.
Since 2007, I have also been an educator. I started off working in schools in a variety of roles: TA, LSA, SEN, Cover Supply, etc. This eventually evolved into tutoring, starting modestly and growing to today, racking up hundreds of successful clients and over a thousand hours of tutoring along the way. I have tutored students from Early Years to Post-Grad; Including 11+, 13+, ISEB and Common Entrance, GCSE’s and A-Levels, Ukiset, IB and pre-IB, UKCAT, as well as pupils with SEN requirements. This involves consistently very high admission rates into chosen schools, high grades in exams, and multiple scholarship placements. I have experience preparing students for Entrance to top schools including (amongst others) Eton (King's Scholarship), Westminster, Tonbridge, King’s, Latymer, Alleyns, Dulwich, JAGS and many more.
Alongside this I have also taught residentially in England, as well as Kuala Lumpur, Moscow, Dubai, Zurich and Delhi. The last few years I have also spent many hours teaching online via Zoom, Skype, etc, and have a host of specialist and personalised materials to create and enhance participation for students. This work has also involved extensive academic assessment prep, providing one-on-one assessment of pupils, professional reports and recommendations.
Tutoring Style
I believe that tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be achieved given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. Younger students are most open to absorbing information and should have the chance to take academic information and guidance from a range of people. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.
Having successfully passed grammar school entrance exams, three university degrees and auditions for multiple prestigious drama schools in the world I know that, with the right teachers, subjects can really come alive. I have also seen how more clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Having been a student myself, I have seen the many positives and potential pitfalls one-to-one tuition can bring. These experiences galvanize me and help me in my own tutoring. I relish taking what I have learnt, and the exciting methods by which I have learnt it, and passing that on to other students.
Regardless of the level taught, it is impossible to make real progress unless the student first has engagement and interest in the subject. I see my task as tutor as a process of invigorating the material for those studying.
